TheyaVue Zinc: 5 Checks Against the 40 mg Daily Limit
TheyaVue gives 32 mg of zinc a day at two capsules, as zinc oxide. The adult upper limit from all sources is 40 mg, so the label sits under it, with 8 mg of room. That room shrinks fast if you also take other zinc. Five checks show how to add it up.

How much zinc is in TheyaVue, and is it too much?
Zinc is the mineral that turns a safe-looking label into a sum. One bottle may be fine. A bottle plus a multivitamin plus a cold lozenge may not be. People ask can you take lutein and zeaxanthin with other vitamins for this very reason, and zinc is one of the parts of the answer.
On the TheyaVue panel the zinc line reads 16 mg per capsule, which is 145% of the Daily Value per capsule. At the label dose of two capsules a day, the intake is 32 mg. This page walks through that number in five checks.
We use the label and the NIH fact-sheet figures named in our files. None of it is medical advice, and your clinician knows your list of medicines better than we do.
- Label: zinc (as zinc oxide) 16 mg per capsule, 32 mg per day at two capsules.
- NIH adult upper limit for zinc from all sources: 40 mg a day. The adult RDA is 8 to 11 mg a day.
- Room left under the limit after one bottle's daily dose: 8 mg.
- Copper on the label: 2 mg a day, the same as the AREDS2 formula.
- AREDS2 used 80 mg of zinc, or 25 mg in a lower-dose arm.

If you want to read the whole panel before you decide, the order page shows the product and the return terms.

This page is about numbers on a label. It does not tell you what is right for your body. TheyaVue is a dietary supplement, not FDA approved and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you take medicine or other supplements.
Check 1: What does the zinc line say?
Read the line exactly as printed. Zinc, as zinc oxide, 16 mg in one capsule. The panel says that is 145% of the Daily Value. The directions call for one capsule twice a day, so a full day gives 32 mg.
Keep two numbers in view. The first is the adult RDA from the NIH, which is 8 to 11 mg a day. TheyaVue gives about three to four times that. The second is the upper limit, 40 mg a day from all sources. The RDA is what most adults need. The limit is the ceiling above which risks grow.
Being above the RDA is not alarming by itself. Being above the limit is the thing to avoid, and the label alone does not cross it.
| Measure | Amount |
|---|---|
| TheyaVue per capsule | 16 mg |
| TheyaVue per day at two capsules | 32 mg |
| NIH adult RDA | 8 to 11 mg a day |
| NIH upper limit, all sources | 40 mg a day |
| Room left under the limit | 8 mg |
Check 2: What else adds zinc to your day?
The 40 mg ceiling counts everything. It is not a limit per product. A bottle of TheyaVue uses most of it on its own, so anything else with zinc in it matters.
- A daily multivitamin, which often lists zinc.
- A cold lozenge or spray that contains zinc.
- A separate zinc supplement, or an AREDS-style eye formula.
- Any other eye, hair, skin or immune formula with a minerals line.
Do the sum with the real labels. Write the zinc milligrams of each product for one day, add 32 for TheyaVue, and compare the total with 40. If the total is above 40, or close to it, take the list to a pharmacist before you start.
Our pages say that adding another zinc product on top of this bottle can cross the limit. We do not know which other products you use, so the sum has to be yours.
Check 3: Why does copper matter next to zinc?
NIH reports that 50 mg of zinc a day or more, largely from supplements, can block copper uptake and cause a copper shortage. That is the reason the AREDS formula put copper beside zinc.
TheyaVue lists copper, as copper gluconate, at 1 mg per capsule, so 2 mg a day. That matches the AREDS2 copper amount exactly. So this one safeguard is handled well. A label with a lot of zinc and no copper would miss it.
Note the scale. The 50 mg warning level sits above this label's 32 mg. It is another reason to watch your total if you stack products.
Check 4: How does the zinc form and the AREDS2 amount compare?
TheyaVue uses zinc oxide. AREDS2 also used zinc oxide. NIH notes that zinc oxide is absorbed less well than zinc citrate or gluconate, at about 50% against roughly 61%. So the 32 mg on the label is not the same as 32 mg taken in.
AREDS2 gave 80 mg of zinc in its standard arm and 25 mg in a lower-dose arm. TheyaVue's 32 mg falls between the two. It is 40% of the standard amount and above the lower one. That placing does not turn the capsule into the trial formula, since vitamin C and vitamin E are lower and lutein and zeaxanthin have no published amount.
| Reference | Zinc per day |
|---|---|
| NIH adult RDA | 8 to 11 mg |
| AREDS2 lower-dose arm | 25 mg |
| TheyaVue label | 32 mg |
| NIH upper limit, all sources | 40 mg |
| AREDS2 standard arm | 80 mg |
Check 5: Who should ask a clinician first?
The label's own rule is to talk to a doctor before use if you take medicine or have a medical condition. Zinc adds a few clear cases to that rule.
You already take zinc
A multivitamin, lozenge or eye formula with zinc can push your total past 40 mg.
You take a prescription or have a condition
A pharmacist can check the whole panel against your list faster than any web page.
You plan to take more than the label says
The label says not to, unless a clinician tells you to.
You are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding
The label is for healthy adults 18 and over, and it says nothing about pregnancy.
Your sight has changed
A change in sight needs an eye exam first.
If you are not sure, bring a photo of the back label and a list of everything you take.
Frequently asked questions
How much zinc is in TheyaVue?
16 mg per capsule as zinc oxide, which is 32 mg a day at the label dose of two capsules.
Is 32 mg of zinc a day safe?
It is under the NIH adult upper limit of 40 mg a day from all sources, but it leaves only 8 mg of room, so other zinc products can push you over.
Does TheyaVue have copper to go with the zinc?
Yes. It lists 2 mg of copper a day as copper gluconate, which matches the copper amount in the AREDS2 formula.
Is TheyaVue's zinc the same as the AREDS2 amount?
No. AREDS2 used 80 mg, or 25 mg in a lower-dose arm. TheyaVue's 32 mg is between those two figures.
Can I take TheyaVue with a multivitamin that has zinc?
Ask a clinician or pharmacist first. Add up the zinc from both labels and compare the total with 40 mg.
Why is zinc oxide a question?
NIH notes zinc oxide is absorbed less well than zinc citrate or gluconate, at about 50% against roughly 61%.

Our view
Zinc is one of the few lines on this label you can fully check. The number is printed, the public limit is known and the copper partner is present. On the bottle alone, the zinc line passes. The risk is not in the bottle. It is in the shelf around it.
So our advice is practical. Add up your zinc before you start, keep to the label dose, and let a pharmacist read the list if it is long. That one habit does more than any rule of thumb about minerals.
